Why does Lotus Notes reject valid VCF contact files?

ReplyThanks 2025/12/15 13:30:33 0 0
Hi Everyone,

I received several VCF files that open perfectly on mobile devices and email clients, but Lotus Notes refuses to import them. The files are not corrupted, yet Notes either throws an error or imports incomplete contacts. This is confusing because the same files work elsewhere. Is this a limitation of Lotus Notes, or am I missing something during the import process?

Hey,

This is because Lotus Notes is not equipped to handle vCard files directly. The application is based on the NSF format, which is quite different in structure from VCF.

Therefore:

In direct attempts, imports are frequently unsuccessful.

Contact fields do not correspond correctly

Only some parts of the data are visible.

Using a vCard to NSF Converter, which changes the vCard information into a format suitable for Lotus Notes, is the proper way. Here, DataVare vCard Export Import, for instance, is such a tool that eliminates this incompatibility issue by making VCF files compatible with Lotus Notes by converting them into the NSF format without causing any errors.
